In a classroom on a Monday morning in August, the students sat waiting for Miss Smith to give them the test papers. Every student in the room was worried. They got their pencils and pens to be ready for the test. A girl sat in a chair and looked at her notes.
The boy next to her kicked his foot. Miss Smith walked near the chairs to look at each student’s desk. She saw that one young student’s face was worried. She said, “You can do well.” The test began, and the students looked at the questions. Some students looked outside the window.
They thought about the world outside the classroom. Time was slow, and the pencil noises were the only noises in the room. It was the end of the test, and the students in the classroom were happy. Miss Smith took the papers, and the students took their pencils home.
They left the classroom and talked about the test. They were happy that it was the end of Monday. Outside, the sun was warm and the boys and girls walked in the town. Some students went to the movie theater and some went to the park.
